November 2026 Individual Tax Due Dates and Tip Reporting

As fall pushes us closer to the holiday season, November brings a few important tax reporting obligations. Whether you are working locally here in Connecticut or anywhere across the country, it is essential to stay on top of the November 2026 tax deadlines—especially the November 10 requirement for employees to report their October tips to their employers.

November 10: Reporting Tips to Your Employer

If you are an employee who works for tips and you received $20 or more in tips during October 2026, you are required to report them to your employer no later than November 10. You can handle this by submitting IRS Form 4070, or you can simply provide your own written statement.

If you write your own statement, make sure it includes your signature; your name, address, and Social Security number; your employer's name (or the establishment's name, if different) and address; the specific month or period the report covers; and the total amount of tips you received during that timeframe.

How Tax Withholding Works for Tip Income

Once you report your tips, your employer is required to withhold FICA taxes and income tax for those tips from your regular wages. Occasionally, your regular paycheck might be insufficient to cover all of the necessary FICA and tax withholding. When that happens, your employer will report the amount of the uncollected withholding in box 8 of your W-2 for the year. You will then be required to pay that uncollected withholding amount when your individual tax return for the year is filed.

Weekends, Holidays, and Disaster Area Extensions

Navigating deadlines can sometimes be impacted by the calendar or unforeseen regional events. If a standard tax due date happens to fall on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, the deadline is automatically extended until the next business day that is not itself a legal holiday.

Additionally, when a geographical area is designated as a disaster area, tax due dates will be extended. To find out whether a specific area has been designated as a disaster area and to review the filing extension dates, you can visit the following resources:
