Tax Planning

Better tax planning means a better financial future

Stay ahead of the game with our personal services

A lot of people don't realize until it's far too late that tax planning is every bit as much an art as it is a science. To put it another way, you're talking about more than just filling out the right forms in the proper ways and making sure that you file on time. You're talking about taking advantage of beneficial tax law provisions, increasing (or even accelerating) tax deductions and credits, making use of any and all available breaks and more — all so that you can guarantee the brightest possible financial future for you and your loved ones.

In an era where income tax laws and regulations seem to change as frequently as the weather, take it from us — this is one road you do not want to travel alone. Now, you don't have to — thanks to our robust and holistic strategic tax planning options.

Just a few of the services we offer to that end include but are certainly not limited to:

  • Retirement planning.

  • Tax audit representation.

  • Federal, state and local income tax assistance.

  • Alternative minimum tax services.

  • Net investment income tax services.

  • Cross-border tax issue assistance.

  • Personal cash flow optimization.

  • Section 199A pass-through entity calculations and planning.

  • Individual income tax planning, projections, preparation and compliance.

  • And much, much more.

We pride ourselves on our ability to work with not only individuals and families, but also with business owners and even executives, to provide the customized, thoughtful and forward-thinking tax guidance needed to make the most out of any and all situations.

We'll go over your current tax situation with a level of care and attention to detail that is second to none. We'll look over income streams, changing tax laws, economic factors and more — all in an effort to see what is going to impact your tax scenario and, more importantly, why.

In the end, you're getting a lot more than just another service provider. You're getting a true partner in every sense of the term. You're also getting a strategy that supports your personal plans and pushes them forward, and one that doesn't hold them back. This includes income, estate or business succession plans as well.

We're truly ready to be anything you need us to be, whenever you need us to be it, absolutely no questions asked.

“Bernard and his team at BR tax group are top notch. This is my first year using them after switching from a different local CPA and I didn't realize how much tax info I've been missing. His communication is great. The additional information he provides to maximize tax savings is something I didn't get from my previous CPA. Thanks Bernard”

Frequently Asked Questions

You can prepare your taxes yourself, especially if your business is simple.

But once you have contractors, employees, business loans, equipment purchases, mileage, mixed expenses, or growing revenue, things get more complex. At that point, tax preparation becomes a way to make sure your business is reported correctly, your deductions are handled properly, and your records can support what you file.

Send anything that shows what your business earned, spent, bought, paid, borrowed, or changed during the year.

That usually means your income records, bank statements, credit card statements, payroll reports, contractor payments, loan documents, mileage records, and prior-year tax return. Also tell me about anything unusual, such as buying a vehicle, hiring someone, opening a new location, or taking out a business loan.

Messy books can slow things down. If expenses are in the wrong categories, transactions are missing, or personal and business spending are mixed together, your tax return may not show the right profit. We may need to clean things up before filing, so your return is accurate and easier to support.

Possibly, if it was truly for your business and you have proof.

Still, it is much better to avoid this when you can. A separate business bank account and business credit card make everything cleaner. They save time, reduce confusion, and make your records much easier to defend if anyone ever asks questions.

Most small business owners can deduct ordinary business expenses like software, advertising, supplies, insurance, rent, payroll, contractor payments, professional fees, travel, and some vehicle costs.

The question I usually ask is simple. Was this expense clearly for the business? If yes, we can look at how it should be handled. Personal expenses should stay personal.
