Estate Administration & Probate

Losing someone is hard enough. Dealing with the legal and financial aftermath shouldn't have to be.

Estate administration is the process of winding up a deceased person's financial affairs — and it involves more than most people expect. I help families navigate every step, so nothing falls through the cracks during an already difficult time.

What estate administration involves:

  • Opening probate and working through the court process

  • Locating, gathering, and appraising assets

  • Notifying creditors and heirs

  • Settling outstanding debts

  • Paying applicable taxes — including Pennsylvania's Inheritance Tax, which applies to most estates in the state

  • Distributing remaining assets to heirs and beneficiaries according to the will or state law

Not everything goes through probate Retirement accounts, life insurance policies, and certain jointly held assets pass outside of probate entirely — but they still need to be handled correctly. I work with families on the full picture, not just the court process.

A note on Pennsylvania Inheritance Tax Pennsylvania is one of a handful of states that still imposes an inheritance tax, and the rates vary depending on your relationship to the deceased. This is often a surprise to families who assumed Pennsylvania had no death tax. Getting it right matters — and getting it wrong can be costly.

If you've recently lost someone and aren't sure where to start, that's exactly where I come in.
